Walter Ledford

March 17, 1931 — February 28, 2010

Walter �Walt� Ledford, 78, of Cartersville died Sunday, February 28, 2010 at his residence following an extended illness. Born March 17, 1931 in Bartow County, he was the son of the late Lee Ledford and the late Ruby Darnell Ledford. He was also preceded in death by his sisters, Martha King and Effie Black; his brothers, Charlie Ledford and Ernest Ledford; and his grandson Josh Millsapp.



Walt was employed in the construction industry and retired from the U.A. Pipefitters #597 in Chicago, Illinois. He served his country in the United States Army and was a paratrooper during the Korean War.



Walt was a member of the Old Glory Lodge #141 in Westchester, Illinois, and he served as a Mason for over fifty years. Other organizations Walt belonged to were the Scottish Rite Valley of Chicago, Medina Shriners, and Eastern Star #506 of Wheaton, Illinois.



Survivors include his wife of thirty years, Justine Exum Ledford; his daughter, Jewell Millsapp; his grandchildren, Jennifer Wiley and Ashley Millsapp; his great-grandchildren, Andrew Wiley and Caleb Wiley; his sisters and brother-in-law, Betty Ledford and Mary and James Smith.



Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Rev. David Baker officiating. Entombment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens.



Serving as pallbearers will be Clarence Brown, Calvin Lee, Melvin Bagley, Mark Bagley, Mitchell Bagley, and Terry Johnson. These gentlemen are asked to be at the funeral home by 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday.



The family would like to give special thanks to the Regency Hospice nurses, Susan, Anna, Patty, Janice, and Tammie.



In lieu of flowers those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Shriners Children Hospital.



The family will receive friends from 6 � 8 p.m. Monday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
