Wanda Wood Duncan, age 62, passed away at home after a brief illness on Saturday, March 6, 2010.
Mrs. Duncan was born in Rome, GA, on November 23, 1947. She graduated from Model High School in 1965, attended college at Shorter, Floyd and Shelton State and graduated in 1984 from Mid-South School of Banking at Memphis State University. After serving in various positions in banking, she retired from Synovus in 2003 as Branch Manager of the West Rome Citizen�s First. She grew up in the Celanese village and spent many days at the neighborhood pool. Her memories of growing up there were an extremely special part of her life. She appreciated the beauty in nature and was an avid conservationist. A friend to all she met, Mrs. Duncan was loved by so many in the Rome community. Committed to the spirit of giving, Mrs. Duncan graciously and willingly served and cared for others. She volunteered her services to local women for several years through Hospitality House and served through many community outreach organizations over the years. She was cherished for spending time with many of her father�s fellow residents at Roman Court. She served on the Board of Directors at Hospitality House. She was given a Community Service Award in 1994 and the Chamber of Commerce�s Women in Management in 1995. Wanda was a wonderful mother, wife, sister and daughter. After her retirement, Mrs. Duncan�s life was consumed by gardening, geneology and spending as much time as possible with her beloved grandchildren, Taylor Janes and Rylee Kines.
Survivors include her husband, Michael Duncan of Rome, GA; a daughter, Stacey Kines Janes and her husband Thomas of Seattle, WA; a son, Eric Kines and his wife Tonja Kines of Rome, GA; two grandchildren, Taylor Janes of Seattle, WA and Rylee Kines of Rome, GA; her father, Monte Wood of Rome, GA; two sisters, Brenda Wood Roy and her husband, Richard Roy of Marietta, GA and Linda Wood Simpson and her husband Jack Simpson of Tallassee, AL; her mother-in-law, Jean Duncan. A number of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, a great-nephew, cousins and many, many friends also survive.
A Celebration of Life service will be held Wednesday, March 10, 2010 at 8:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings & Miller Funeral Home. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M.
