Mr. Wayne Elliott �Red /Hoot� Gibson age 71, of Cherokee, AL, died September 2, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Gibson was born on October 30, 1938, the son of the late John Hubert Gibson and Eula Adell Lockridge Gibson. He retired from GEO Specialty Chemical Company in Cedartown after thirty-four years of service. Also, he worked at Brown�s Ambulance Service from 1974 until 1978, Pinkerton Security Services from 1978 until 1981; and Polk General Hospital as a security Guard from 1981 until 1999. Mr. Gibson was a member at First Assembly of God and Glory Tabernacle. He was a volunteer fireman of the Prior Station Fire Department in Cedartown. In addition to his parents Mr. Gibson was preceded in death by his wife, Polly Dean Gibson on March 12, 2006; three brothers, Herbert Gibson, Hubert Gibson, and Larry Edward Gibson; and three sisters, Louise Liner, Frances Corn, and Sarah Elizabeth Gibson.
Survivors include a son, Russell Keith Gibson of Cedartown, GA; a daughter, Rhonda Elizabeth Goolsby Farmer of Rome; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild; and a sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Edward Short of Cedartown, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, September 5, 2010, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Pastor David McLucas and Pastor Billy Vines officiating. Interment will follow in Polk Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel.
Pallbearers are as follows: Jason Farmer, Joshua Farmer, Jonathan Farmer, Darin Greenfield, Bradley Short, and John Short.
