Wayne Gibson

June 26, 1944 — February 15, 2025

Wayne Douglas Gibson, 80, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and devoted man of faith, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of love, wisdom, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.

Born in Tennessee to the late Emma and Ben Gibson, Wayne was raised with strong values and a deep appreciation for family. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Jack, Johnny, and Edward Gibson. He is survived by his loving sisters, Wilma Young, Louis Hudson, and Mary Francis Gibson ("Peanut"), all of North Carolina.

Wayne earned his Master's degree in Bibliology from Mercer University, a testament to his love for learning and his deep faith. As a man of Baptist faith, he was an active member of his community in Kingston, Georgia, where his kindness, generosity, and strong moral compass touched the lives of many.

He shared a beautiful life with his devoted wife, Jean, and was the proud and loving father of Greg and Tammy Gibson, Sean and Tara Gibson, Tangela Gibson, Kimberly and Bill West, and Kelly Scoggins. Wayne cherished his role as a grandfather to 22 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 16 great-grandchildren, finding immense joy in their laughter, growth, and accomplishments.

An avid outdoorsman, Wayne found peace and happiness in nature, often fishing in the streams of North Carolina and spending precious moments outside with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. His love for Christmas was unmatched, as he delighted in creating magical memories for his family during the holiday season.

Wayne's presence in the lives of those who knew him was a blessing, and his legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to share in his journey. His faith, love, and kindness will never be forgotten.
