Wayne Mathews

Mr. Wayne B. Mathews, 85, of Cartersville passed away on February 16, 2021 at his residence.

Born on June 8, 1935 in Bradenton, Florida he was the son of the late Drexel Mathews and the late Genevieve Young. He was also preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Gloria Mathews, daughter, Micki Mathews; brother, Leonard Mathews.

Mr. Mathews served his country in the United States Navy, later earning his degree and teaching for several state vocational college throughout his career.

Survivors include his children, Debi Smith (Buster), Barney Mathews (Kathy Greer), Patti Daugherty (Dale); his grandchildren, Matt Smith (Beth), Jeni Carter (Jeff), Courtney Palma (Marshall), Trae Mathews (Allie), and Danielle Mathews; his great-grandchildren, Carson, Cameron and Brooks Carter, Mason Smith and Kaylee Palma; his siblings, Betty Miles, Joyce Miller and Andy Mathews; multiple nieces and nephews, along with his faithful companion of five years, Fran Chavar.

A funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 20, 2021 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with Reverend Sammy Burgess officiating. Burial will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home prior to the service.

Serving as pallbearers will be Buster Smith, Dale Daugherty, Barney Mathews, Jeff Carter, Matt Smith, and Noel Roper.
