Wayne C. Matthews, 79, of Adairsville passed away Wednesday, January 7, 2009 at the Cartersville Medical Center. Born in Bartow County on October 29, 1929, he was the son of the late Arvil Clifford Matthews and the late Mary Magdaline Fowler Matthews.
Mr. Matthews was a member of Chief Cornerstone Independent Church and had retired from Shaw Industries. He enjoyed tinkering with his truck, enjoyed his dogs and his guitar, and loved playing with his granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Winifred Matthews; and a grandson, Jamon Ray.
Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Ella D. Matthews of Adairsville; his daughters and son-in-law, Lisa Parker of Cartersville and Jeni and Ronnie Hyde of Adairsville; his son, Alan Matthews of Cartersville, his step-son, Larry Tidwell of Adairsville; his sister, Mamie Jo Hill of Cartersville; and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2009 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. David Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow in Cassville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be Willard Summey, Ricky Fowler, Larry Pratt, Michael Floyd, Bryan Leatherwood, and Johnny Phillips. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers are requested to meet at the funeral home by 10:15 a.m. on Friday.
The family will receive friends from 6 � 9 p.m. Thursday at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 430 Cassville Rd., Cartersville, GA 30120.
