Wilbur Burnette

Mr. Wilbur Eugene "Gene" Burnette, age 70, of 221 East Little Indian Trail, Rome, GA, died Friday, June 27, 2008.

Mr. Burnette was born in Wilcox County, GA, on November 5, 1937. He is the son of the late George Edward Burnette and Ethel Cantrell Burnette. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Burnette was a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Local Union 85. He loved wood working, playing the guitar and the computer. Also, he enjoyed fishing. In addition to his parents Mr. Burnette is preceded in death by his wife, Glynece Burnette and six brothers, James Burnette, Ferrell Burnette, Lonnie Burnette, John Burnette, William Burnette, and Hubert Burnette; and four sisters, Bessie Wright, Lillian Wright, Mae Simmons, and Edna Cook.

Survivors include three daughters, Sharon (Roy) Cunningham, Joni Baldwin, and Jamie Burnette: step sons, Bill (Michele) Sims, and Mike Sims; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Geneva Nutt; and nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Pitts Cemetery on Monday, July 7, 2008, at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Ronnie Youngblood officiating.
