Wiley L. Bennett, 76, of Cartersville passed away Friday, May 10, 2013 at his residence.
Born on September 18, 1936 in Kingston, he was the son of the late Wiley Edward Bennett and the late Betty Elizabeth Kilgore Bennett. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Robert Bennett and Marcus Bennett; his sister, Belle Rogers; his granddaughter, Hope Bennett; and his great-grandson, Straton Bennett.
Mr. Bennett served his country in the U.S. Army and was later employed by Cartersville Fire Protection as a shop Foreman. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Mr. Bennett loved woodworking, gardening and feeding the birds in his yard. He was a kind, caring and compassionate man who loved his family dearly especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife of fifty four years, Dorothy Hardin Bennett; his sons, Phillip Bennett (Kim), David Bennett (Jane), Steven Bennett (Sandy), Michael Bennett (Shelly) and Christopher Bennett; sixteen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with the Reverend David Bennett and Mr. Phillip Bennett officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Blaine Bennett, Christopher Bennett, Joseph Bennett, Brandon Bennett, Adam Bennett and Landon Bennett. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jay Bennett and Jerry Bennett. These gentlemen are asked to be at the funeral home by 11:15 a.m. on Tuesday.
