Mr. Wilfred George Bean, age 88, of Cartersville, died Thursday, March 10, 2016 at his residence following a battle with cancer.

Born in Belmont, New Hampshire on December 27, 1927, he was the son of the late Christopher Bean and Doris Rogers Bean. Mr. Bean was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church and was retired from the U.S. Government where he was a Deputy Director of Eastern Region National Cemeteries with 35 years of service. George was a veteran having served his country in the United States Navy. He enjoyed cabinet making, playing golf and gardening. George was an honorable and fun loving person who loved his family. He was also an active member and Past Master of the Sweetwater Lodge #421 F&AM, a member of York Rite, Tall Cedars of Lebanon and Past District Grand Deputy and Past Patron of the Order of Eastern Star #328. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Shirley Rose Sweenie Bean; his sister, Pauline Pikor and his brothers, Fenton Bean and Keith Bean.

Survivors include his wife of 18 years, Mary Sue Hopkins Bean of Cartersville; his son, Robert "Bob" James Bean (Becky) of Florence, South Carolina; his brother, Albert Bean of Alexandria, Virginia; his grandsons, Robert James Bean, Jr. of Fork, South Carolina and Jonathan Christopher Bean of Franklin, North Carolina; two step-daughters, Connie Rene' King of White and Tina Bagley of Cartersville.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 12, 2016 at Oakland Heights Baptist Church with The Reverend Joe McKaig and The Reverend Joe Nix officiating with full Masonic Rites at the Church. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. on Friday, March 11, 2016 at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services. An Eastern Star Service will follow in the chapel at 7:00 p.m. Interment will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Georgia National Cemetery with full military honors.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to the Royal Arch Research Assistance Inc., P.O. Box 128, Greenfield, Indiana.
