William Gill

October 14, 1924 — August 8, 2010

Mr. William Oliver Gill age 85, of Rome, GA , went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, August 8, 2010 at his residence.



Mr. Gill was born Webster County, GA on October 14, 1924, the son of the late Joseph Gill and Laura Cooper Gill. He served in the United States Marine Corps from July 1941 until October 1945 during World War II in the South Pacific and was a member of Rome Baptist Temple. Mr. Gill retired from General Electric in 1985 and worked with Curtis Packing from 1987 until 2007. He loved church and watching old western movies. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gill was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie �Margie� Gammon Gill; a son, Calvin Gill; a brother, Arthur Gill; a sister, Mary Protho; two infant brothers; and an infant sister.



Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ralph and Teresa Gill of Rome; a daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Butch Sexton Hendersonville, NC; five grandchildren, Tracy Gill of Key West, FL, Mitchell Gill of Cleveland, TN, Angie Gill of Chattanooga, TN, Shannon Sullins of Lindale, GA, and Holly White and her husband, Terry of Rome, GA; eight great-grandchildren, Kelly Gill of Huntsville, AL, Joshua Gill of Huntsville, AL, Matthew Roberts of Chattanooga, TN, William Edenfield of Lindale, GA, Jamie Edenfield of Lindale, GA, Ashley Gill of Cleveland, TN, Laura Bing of Lindale, GA, and Marley White of Rome, GA; a great-great-grandson, Rory Gill of Huntsville, AL; and a brother, Robert Lewis Gill of Rome, GA.



A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 2:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Dr. Billy Goolesby and Rev. Jack Cole officiating. Interment to follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with the honor guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 of the American Legion conducting military graveside rites.



The family will receive friends Monday from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel.



The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Heritage Chapel by 1:30 P.M. on Tuesday: Larry Worley, Griffin Worley, Terry White, William Edenfield, Jerry Gill, and Chris Castleman. The Honorary pallbearers will be Heyman Hospice.
