Reverend William Thomas Howard, Jr. 89, of Cartersville, died on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at Star Manor. He was born in Cedartown, Georgia on August 2, 1927 to the late William Thomas Howard and Margaret Bray Howard.
Reverend Howard was a member of the First Baptist Church of Woodstock and a former pastor of Canton Road Church of God. He shared the gospel with everyone he came in contact with. Reverend Howard was a dedicated preacher for more than 50 years. He retired from Marietta School System and enjoyed fishing and traveling. Even after his retirement, he actively served his church, Sunday School Class, community and all mankind. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Coker Howard; a sister, Margie McMichen; and a brother, Robert Howard.
Survivors include his daughters, Judy Purcell (Joe) of Dalton, Brenda Rakestraw of Cartersville, and Cindy Baker (Archie) of McDonough; his sons, Gary Howard (Mary) of Chatsworth and Tom Howard (Beverly) of Cartersville; his grandchildren, Garronica Bentley, (Raymond) of Ringgold, Tori Brumlow, (Ryan) of Roswell, Dewayne Smith,(Kasha) of Knoxville, Tennessee, Eric Howard (Dana) of Dalton, Brad Howard of Smyrna, Tennessee, Will Baker (Tiffany) of Monticello, Georgia, Jack Howard of Cartersville, Luke Baker of McDonough, Sam Howard of Cartersville and Jake Baker, of McDonough; 13 great grandchildren; and 2 sisters, Bettie Newman and Faye Bowers both of Dallas.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, March 12, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at Canton Road Church of God with The Reverend Larry Davis and The Reverend Dewayne McCreary officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens; Reverend Howard will be taken to the church on Sunday, where he will lie-in-state from 1:30 p.m. until the funeral hour. The family will receive friends during those hours.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tom Howard, Jack Howard, Sam Howard, Archie Baker, Luke Baker and Jake Baker.
