William Smith, Jr.

Mr. William Preston �Sonny� Smith, Jr. age 66, of Rome, GA, died Sunday, July 12, 2009, at a local hospital.
Mr. Smith was born in Chattooga County, GA on March 12, 1943, the son of Ruby Cordell Smith and the late William Preston Smith, Sr. He retired from the D.O.T. after thirty-two years of service and from Kroger after six years of service. In addition to his father, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Edward Smith.
In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife of thirty-seven years, Marylyn Smith; a son, David Wayne Smith of Rome; a brother, Charles Mack Smith of CA; and a sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Bennett Jeffcoat of Summerville, GA. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 2:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home with Rev. Jerome Dennis,Rev. Jimmy Bryant, and Rev. David Craven officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Wednesday, July 15, 2009, from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, & Miller Funeral Home.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Oaknoll Chapel on Thursday by 1:30 P.M.: Mark Hilbert, Jimmy Davis, Billy Smith, Jack Smith, Bud Smith, Jeremy Molton and Arthur Crowe.
