William Trammell

Mr. William D. Trammell, age 90, of 4 Drexel Drive, Rome, GA, died Wednesday, September 27, 2006, in a local hospital.A native of Rome and Floyd County, Mr. Trammell, was born on February 3, 1916, to the late William "Bill" Trammell and Sara Savannah Shaw Trammell. He was a member of the New Bethel Baptist Church. Prior to retirement he was associated with Oaknoll Memorial Gardens Cemetery for nineteen years and Berry College for about two years as a grounds maintenance technician. Mr. Trammell is lovingly remembered as a good-natured man with a great smile who enjoyed watching football and baseball. He also enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing with his children. Mr. Trammell is preceded in death by his wife, Ethel Pauline Johnson Trammell, to whom he married in October of 1936; a son, William F. Trammell; a daughter, Libby Lorena Trammell; and nine brothers and sisters.Mr. Trammell is survived by two sons and daughter-in-law, James "Jimmy" W. Trammell of Coosa, GA, Randy J. Trammell of Rome, and Dora Trammell also of Rome; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jewell and Claude Kail of Rome, and Betty and Thomas Ayers of Cave Spring, GA; eight grandchildren, Diane Armstrong of Rome, Kathy McBurnett of Rome, Michael Ayers of Cave Spring, Danny and David Ayers both of Rome, Randy L. Trammell of Cartersville, GA and Angel D. Trammell of Rome; and twenty great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.Funeral services for Mr. Trammell will be held this (Friday) afternoon at 3 P.M. in the Heritage Chapel of the Jennings Funeral Home with Rev. Ed Holsomback officiating. Interment will follow in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens Cemetery.The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as pallbearers and need to meet at the funeral home by 2:30 P.M. and include David Ayers, Michael Ayers, Danny Ayers, Claude Kail, Thomas Ayers, and Randy Trammell.
