It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of William Lee Welchel on Sunday, February 22, 2026, at the age of 82. William was a beloved resident of Cartersville, Georgia, and was born on Monday, May 31, 1943, in Taylorsville, Georgia.
William was a dedicated engineer at Shaw, where he worked diligently in central engineering. A proud veteran, he honorably served his country in the U.S. Army, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Vietnam Campaign Medal for his valiant efforts.
Known for his skillful woodworking and passion for bowling, William enriched the lives of those around him with his vibrant personality and unwavering spirit.
He is lovingly remembered by his sons, Jarrod Welchel (Monika) and Jeremy Welchel (Vicki); his cherished grandchildren, Preston Welchel, Kristy Fields, Wesley Smith, Jeremy Smith, Chyenne Welchel, and Sidnee Welchel; and his great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews, his brother Felton Lamar Welchel, and sister Mary Worthington.
William is preceded in death by his parents, William Franklin Welchel and Mattie Lou Welchel, along with his sisters, Betty Gentry, Annie Gail Harris, and Elizabeth Henson.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Parnick Jennings Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Cartersville, GA, on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
