William Wiley

July 11, 1926 — February 9, 2007

Mr. William Wiley, age 80, of 19 Quail Trail, Fortson, Georgia, passed away February 9, 2007 at his residence.

Mr. Wiley was born July 11, 1926 in Gainesville, Georgia the son of the late Frank Thomas Wiley, Sr. and Lois Ilee Purcell Wiley. He was a graduate of Middleton High School in Middleton, TN and a member of Gold Ridge Baptist Church in Ranburne, AL. Mr. Wiley served during World War II in the United States Army. Mr. Wiley worked during the war as a Military Police and helped guard over the 21 men who were tried for war crimes in Nuremberg, Germany. He worked for 32 years with the United States Postal Services where he also received numerous postal awards.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Clay Wiley of Fortson, GA; step-son , James (Ruth) Lyons of Columbus, GA; grandchildren, Sara Joy Dow, Elizabeth Fritz, Joshua Lyons and Susanna Lyons all of Pensacola, FL; sisters, Johnnie Mae Cash of Athens, GA and Nancy Lee Lassiter of Marietta, GA; brothers, James E. Wiley of Warrenton, GA and Jerry Wayne Wiley of Rome, GA. He was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Thomas Wiley of Thompson, GA.

Funeral services for Mr. Wiley will be held Wednesday at 10:00 am at the Jennings Oaknoll Chapel with Rev. James Lyons officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens. The Shanklin-Attaway Post #5 Honor Guard will confer military rites.

Pallbearers include, Joshua Lyons, Eric Lawler, Douglas Otwell, Daniel Clay, Wayne Wiley, Daryl Wiley, Dennis Holloway and David Cash.

The Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home has charge of the services for Mr. William Wiley.
