Mr. Willie R. Goree, age 88, Silver Creek, GA, died Tuesday, September 30, 2008, in a local nursing home.
Mr. Goree was born in Stewart County, GA, on November 8, 1919, the son of the late Claude Austin Goree and Maryetta Nancy Trammell Goree. Mr. Goree is the last of nine children. He served in the United States Army doing World War II and worked for Georgia Power for thirty-five years of service. Mr. Goree was a member of Shorter Avenue Baptist Church and a member of the Coosa Lodge since 1959. In addition to his parents Mr. Goree was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Mae Goree and a daughter, Paulette Goree Mathis.
Survivors include a son-in-law, Dennis Mathis; three grandchildren, Dennis Hayden Mathis, Shanda Rowell, and Tressa Reddish; and five great-grandchildren, Savannah and Trent Mathis, Brylan Rowell, and Kenneth and Allie Reddish. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside and interment services will be held Thursday, October 2, 2008, at 3:00 P.M. in the Oaknoll Memorial Gardens with Rev. Vernell Ozment officiating.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 12:30 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, and Miller Funeral Home.
The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers and are requested to meet in the Oaknoll Chapel of the McGuire, Jennings, and Miller Funeral Home by 2:15 P.M.: Floyd Ozment, Steve Smetts, Wayne Agan, Ken Terry, Stephen Pearson, Lon Ozment and Wayne Comer. The honorary pallbearers will be the Coosa Masonic Lodge #622 F & AM and conduct the gravesite rites.
