Mrs. Wilma Jean Day, 75, of Taylorsville, went to be with the Lord, Saturday, November 22, 2014 at her residence surrounded by her family.
Mrs. Day was born in Taylorsville on March 22, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Henry Hoy Collum, Sr. and Evelyn Lois Hames Collum. She grew up in Bartow County but after marrying moved to Gwinnet County where she lived for the next 30 plus years. She returned to Bartow County in 2003 where she lived the remainder of her life. Mrs. Day was a member of Euharlee Baptist church, a member of The Melody Makers Gospel Singing Group and later with The Spiritual Vision Gospel Singing Group. She was a music and poem composer and enjoyed singing. She was a compassionate person who always had time to send a card or to speak a kind word. Preceding her in death is her first husband, John Dudley Pilgrim, Jr., her parents, a brother, Hoyt Collum, Jr. and a sister, Alma Collum Costlow. Mrs. Day was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
She is survived by her husband, Dallas Day; combined children, Denise Cheek of Taylorsville, John Dudley Pilgrim, III of Winder, Elizabeth Pilgrim of Decatur, Jane Allred of Loganville, Darrell Day of Cartersville, Debra Crane of Cartersville and David Day of Euharlee; her grandchildren, Randi Davis Minor, Rebecca Cheek, Bradley Cheek, Katie Cheek; two great-grandchildren, Bentley Cheek and Kinsley Cheek; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Euharlee Baptist Church with The Reverend Keith Dempsey officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Crossroads Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 11:00 a.m. until the funeral hour at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be Bradley Gentry, Chris West, Robert Sellers, Jacob Sellers, Patrick Wood and Mark Coleman. Phillip Cheek, Bradley Cheek, Darrell Day and Ken Crane will serve as honorary pallbearers.
