Mrs. Wilma H. Thomas, age 81, of 102 Friar Tuck Road, Rome died Tuesday morning, February 19, 2008 at a local hospital.
Mrs. Thomas was born in Cherokee, Alabama on July 23, 1926, the daughter of the late George Willis Hardin and Isabella Barnes Hardin. She had been a resident of Rome and Floyd County since 1980 and was a member of Piney Grove Baptist in Marietta for 20 years and after returning to Rome became a member of the Wilkerson Road Baptist Church. Mrs. Thomas was a member of the WMU. Prior to retirement Mrs. Thomas was employed at K Mart for eleven years as a sales clerk. She was preceded in death by her husband Winford Broome on November 14, 2005, by three brothers, Joe, Robert and Emmitt Hardin and three sisters, Bonnie Long, Etta Willingham and Laura Grace Sims.
Survivors include three daughters; Wilma Janet Payne of Rome, Laura Jean Cook of Hiram, GA and Joyce Marie Hamilton of Jasper, GA; three sons, Kenneth Thomas of Hiram, Clyde Thomas of Kailua, Hawaii and Thomas Eugene Thomas of Powder Springs, GA; three step-daughters, Annette Johnson, Donna Broome and Sheila Garmany all of Rome; one step-son, Larry Broome of Rome; nineteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild also survives.
Funeral service will be held Friday morning at 11:00 am at Wilkerson Road Baptist Church with Rev. Norman Money and Rev. Milford Williams officiating. Interment will follow at Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
Mrs. Thomas will be carried to the church to lie-in-state Friday morning from 10:00 am until the service hour.
The family will receive friend Thursday evening from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home. At other hours they will be at the residence, 102 Friar Tuck Road (Sherwood Forest Community), Rome, GA.
Flowers will be accepted but those desiring may make donations to the Wilkerson Road Baptist Church Youth in memory of Mrs. Thomas.
Pallbearers are asked to meet at the church Friday morning by 10:30 am and include, Keith Thomas, Kenneth Hamilton, Henson Thomas, Gary Garmany, Michael Cook and Seth Broome.
The Oaknoll Chapel of Jennings Funeral Home has charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Wilma H. Thomas.
