Mrs. Winnie Smith, 84, of Rydal, died Friday, June 07, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Born October 2, 1928 on Garland Mountain in Cherokee County, she was the daughter of the late Ples Garland and the late Mary Moss Garland. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, James Howard Smith, Jr.; her son, James Harry Smith; and two sisters, Clara Jones and Opal Harmon.
Winnie was a member of Oak Hill Baptist Church in Rydal and was a devoted wife for more than 50 years. She loved to cook for her family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be missed.
Survivors include her daughter, Linda Jane Thomas of Adairsville; her grandchildren, Mirannda Garrett and husband, Kelly of Taylorsville, Jayta Long and husband, Troy of Silver Creek, Lisa Cash and husband, Richard of Adairsville, and Brian Smith of Rydal; her sisters, Ruby Teem of Talking Rock and Ludy Burk and husband, Joe of Adairsville; her daughter-in-law, Delores Smith of Rydal; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 10, 2013 in the chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home and Cremation Services with the Reverend David Lewis and Reverend Henry Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Log United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5- 8 p.m., Sunday at the funeral home.
Serving as pallbearers will be Collin Garrett, Greg Sharpton, Homer Holmes, Richard Cash, Michael Elzey and Chris Elzey. These gentlemen are asked to be at the funeral home by 1:15 on Monday.
