Obituary for Virgil Edwin Gilley

Virgil Edwin  Gilley
Mr. Virgil Edwin Gilley, 88, of Cartersville, died Tuesday, September 23, 2014 at Signature Healthcare of Buckhead.

Born January 28, 1926 in Carrollton, Georgia, he was a son of the late Joseph Brown Gilley, and the late Jennie Crawford Gilley. Mr. Gilley was a member of Wofford’s Crossroads Baptist Church and was a veteran of the United States Army. He was the owner & operator of VG Auto Sales/Gilley Motors. He loved racing cars and walking horses. In addition to his parents, Mr. Gilley was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Lucy Woodall Gilley; brothers, Horace Gilley, Herbert Gilley, Roy Gilley, Ezra Gilley, Dorsey Gilley, Grady Gilley, and Claude Gilley; and sisters, Arizona Boatwright, Annie Dickie, Ruby Hubbard, Lucille Gilley, and Clara Gilley.

Survivors include his daughter, Lorri Gilley of Cartersville; sister, Lenora Gladney of Tuscaloosa, AL; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Parnick Jennings Funeral Home with The Reverend Keith Dempsey officiating. Interment will follow in Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 27, 2014 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
